Eligibility Criteria for MRCPI 2024 Exam
To sit for the MRCPI 2024 exam, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Hold a medical degree recognized by the Medical Council of Ireland or an equivalent body in your home country.
Be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland or eligible for registration.
Have completed a minimum of two years of postgraduate training, including at least 12 months in relevant clinical specialties.
MRCPI Exam Pattern 2024
The MRCPI exam consists of three parts: MRCPI Part 1, MRCPI Part 2 Written, and MRCPI Part 2 OSCE which is a clinical exam.
MRCPI Part 1
The Part 1 exam is a computer-based test that assesses your theoretical knowledge in key areas of the speciality for which you are attending the exam. It consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and extended matching questions (EMQs). Passing this exam is a prerequisite for taking the Part 2 exam.
MRCPI Part 2 Written
The MRCPI Part 2 Written exam focuses on clinical knowledge and its application. It consists of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Each paper contains a mix of MCQs, EMQs, and clinical case-based questions. The exam assesses your ability to diagnose and manage clinical cases across various specialties, including cardiology, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases, oncology, rheumatology, and others.
MRCPI Part 2 Clinical:
The final part of MRCPI is an Objective Structured Clinical Exam -OSCE which evaluates the clinical skills and communication abilities of the candidates. It is a practical examination conducted in a hospital-like setting. The exam consists of several clinical stations where you interact with standardized patients. Each station assesses different aspects of clinical skills, including history taking, physical examination, clinical reasoning, communication, and ethical decision-making.
