MRCP  

The Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) examination is the gateway for anyone who wishes to build a career in the UK. it consists of three parts: MRCP Part 1, MRCP Part 2 (written), and the MRCP PACES (Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills). The exam tests both the medical knowledge and clinical skills of the aspirants

MRCPI 

 The Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) could be the right choice for you, if you are an OB GYN specialist looking to settle in Ireland .The exam, consists of three parts: MRCPI Part 1, MRCPI Part 2 Written, and MRCPI  Part 2 OSCE  that assess the medical knowledge and clinical skills of the candidates.

MRCP Exam Structure 

MRCP Part 1 

The MRCP Part 1 is a one day examination with two papers. Each paper is of two hour duration. The exam contains 100 multiple choice questions in the best of five format.  Each correct answer is awarded one mark; there is no negative marking.

MRCP Part 2 

The MRCP Part 2 exam consists of 2 papers. Each paper is of 3-hours duration and contains 100 multiple choice questions – MCQs. Candidates can take both the papers on the same day.

MRCP PACES 

MRCP PACES is conducted in a clinical setting like a hospital or clinical skills centre. The examination includes five stations and eight patient encounters which will assess the seven core skills needed for  higher speciality training.  Each clinical station is 20 minutes. A five-minute break is provided between each station. 

MRCPI Exam Structure

MRCPI Part 1 

The MRCPI Part 1 exam is a computer-based test that assesses your theoretical knowledge in key areas of the speciality for which you are attending the exam. The exam consists of both multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and extended matching questions (EMQs). Passing this exam is a prerequisite for taking MRCPI Part 2 exams

It is important to note that there are exceptions which will allow candidates to appear for the MRCPI 2 Written exam even without attending MRCPI Part 1.

MRCPI Part 2 Written 

The Part 2 Written exam focuses on clinical knowledge and its application. The exam consists of two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Each paper contains a mix of MCQs, EMQs, and clinical case-based questions. The exam assesses your ability to diagnose and manage clinical cases across various specialties, including cardiology, respiratory medicine, infectious diseases, oncology, rheumatology, and others.

MRCPI Part 2 Clinical: 

The final part of MRCPI is an Objective Structured Clinical Exam -OSCE which evaluates the clinical skills and communication abilities of the candidates. This  practical examination is conducted in a hospital-like setting.
