FRCR Part 2B: A detailed overview
The FRCR Part 2B exam is the clinical component of the FRCR exams. It consists of three sections: a reporting session, a rapid reporting session, and an oral exam. Aligned with the Specialty Training Curriculum, it evaluates a candidate’s ability to interpret images, make accurate diagnoses, and communicate effectively.
The written components (Rapid Reporting and Reporting session) are conducted on a single day, whereas the Oral Examination (Viva) is usually held after 3 to 7 days.
- Rapid reporting session: This section requires candidates to report 30 cases within 35 minutes.
- Long cases (Reporting session): Candidates are provided with six cases to interpret within 75 minutes.
- Oral examination: Conducted in two 30-minute sessions, this exam assesses clinical reasoning, decision-making, and communication skills.
Eligibility for FRCR Part 2B
Candidates must meet the following criteria to sit for the FRCR Part 2B exam:
- Must have passed FRCR Part 1 and FRCR Part 2A.
- Must have completed 34 months of formal clinical radiology training by the month of the exam.
- A maximum of six attempts is allowed to clear the FRCR Part 2B exam.
