FMGE: Exam Pattern and Eligibility

Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is an essential examination for Indian citizens or Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs). They have acquired their medical degrees from institutions outside India. The exam is conduct by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to assess the knowledge and competency of these graduates and grant them the license to practice medicine in India.

FMGE Exam pattern

The FMGE is conduct twice a year and it is a computer-based test (CBT) where candidates answer multiple-choice questions (MCQs) on a computer and the exam consists of 300 MCQs. Each question has four answer options, out of which candidates must choose the correct one. The questions in FMGE are distribute across various subjects preclinical, Para clinical, and clinical.

Each correct answer carries one mark. There is no negative marking, therefor no marks are deduct for incorrect answers or unanswered questions. The total time allocated for the FMGE is 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes).

Candidates need to manage their time effectively to complete the exam within the given duration. To pass the FMGE, candidates must score a minimum of 150 out of 300 marks. To be eligible for the FMGE, candidates need to fulfil certain criteria established by the NBE.

Citizenship

Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) are eligible to appear for FMGE.

Primary Medical Qualification

Candidate must possess a primary medical qualification (MBBS degree or an equivalent degree) from a medical institution recognize by the concern authority of the country. The medical institution must be list in the World Directory of Medical Schools or any other equivalent directory.

Documentation

Candidates are require to provide proof of their primary medical qualification, including their degree certificate, mark sheets, and other relevant documents.

Internship Completion

Applicants must have completed or be in the process of completing their one-year internship or practical training by the cut-off date specified for the examination.

The FMGE plays a significant role in ensuring that foreign medical graduates possess the necessary knowledge and skills to practice medicine in India.
